A personal journey of an anxious mind chasing the dream of remote life by the sea

Is it possible to stop AI from stealing art?

Does anybody have a positive answer to this question?

I mean realistically it looks like it is totally out of control to make AI stop doing anything anymore, but I guess I am searching for the last little tiny bit of hope.

Or has everybody already accepted this tech apocalypse and I have to do the same...

Otherwise, I think that artists have to go back to times before the internet and promote their art in an organic way. There are so many reels that pop up in my feed where artists share that AI stole their videos and artwork. Hours, weeks, months of work. Today, I saw a video of an "artist" sharing his process of painting on the canvas done completely by AI and all his followers were fake accounts and bots. I had to watch the video at least twice to notice the details but maybe in 6 months (or even less?) we will never be able to tell the difference.

What is going to happen to us, our brains and our mental health when we come to the point where we have to analyse the authenticity of every single photo, video and article online?

Promoting art online is probably the best and most efficient way for artists to make money. But I am not talking only about selling. I follow many art accounts to get inspired, to see pros and cons of the artist's life, to understand how much work there is behind it, to discover different art media and unique styles, and it brings me joy on a tough day.

In the last 6 years, I have been thinking about becoming an artist. Another one of my big dreams. It's one hell of a roller coaster journey. Nothing linear about it. Periods of creative days and unproductive weeks & months too because I am overthinking and doubting myself. I tried to give up on art so many times but it always found a way to come back to my life.

I wanted to start with digital art, I thought that it was going to be quite easy but I gave up on Photoshop and Illustrator very quickly. I found it really difficult. Then I tried to draw in Procreate, which was very fun. Then, I had a very long break (years). After that, I started thinking that I really wanted to learn to draw properly so I signed up for a drawing course and attended lessons for about two years. My teacher was one of the best teachers I have ever met, he taught me to look at things differently.

Charcoal and pencil were my first art materials. After those two years, I decided to discover the most suitable art media on my own. My first choice was coloured pencils because they allow the biggest control in the process of drawing down to the tiniest details. Then I thought that maybe I should learn how to let go, so I tried watercolour. I loved this raw feeling of the brush dancing on the paper, being dirty from colours, there was something magical about it. But it was incredibly difficult to control, actually it is impossible to control watercolours. So I tried alcohol markers but colours are too vivid and I couldn't figure out blending, it was very tricky for me. Watercolours definitely stole my heart, so I went back to them but I haven't learned to let go yet. Neither the watercolours nor my mind. I took a break due to craziness at work and switching job positions but now I feel like I want and need to go back to painting. I want to try some new ideas.

Elizabeth Gilbert said that the opposite of anxiety is creativity, not calmness. My life was always the prettiest and most peaceful when I included art activities in it.

So one day, if I find the courage to share my art, what would be my options actually?

Many times I had this vision of sitting on a small chair on the street or market of a beautiful small seaside town. In front of me, there is a table full of my paintings and I am also painting in that very moment. People are walking around, some of them notice my spot and come closer to see and maybe ask some questions. Others just pass by without noticing anything, they are in a hurry to make photos of all the beautiful places that town has to offer. And it's okay. Everything is okay in that moment. But yeah, I know it is very dreamy.

Is this the only way how to keep art alive from now on?
